Here is the original Tony the Tiger from Sugar Frosted Flakes. They also featured Katy the Kangaroo.

Here is Katie the Kangaroo, who was featured on half the Sugar Frosted Flakes Boxes. Tony the Tiger was on the other half. Katy appealed to the girls and Tony to the boys. At least that's how it was in our house.

Here is a picture of the original Tony the Tiger that was apparently used in an ad in Japan. Just thought it was interesting.

Sugar Corn Pops was the sponsor of Wild Bill Hickok, starring Guy Madison. Here is a 1950s box with the star of the show on the front.

Since Sugar Corn Pops was the sponsor of the TV show Wild Bill Hickok, here is a box that featured Andy Devine as Jingles, Wild Bill's sidekick, on the box front.

Kelloggs named their cereal Sugar Corn Pops, Sugar Pops (maybe corn was scaring kids away) and then later Corn Pops. Here is another box with Guy Madison as Wild Bill Hickok. Look at the promotion --- for Colt Six Shooters. Times have changed.

Here is an early box of Kelloggs Corn Flakes with an offer for Navy frogmen. They were pretty disappointing. I think they were made of the same crummy plastic as the Kelloggs atomic sub.

Kelloggs corn flakes had a tie-in with the Dragnet TV Show. Here they are offering a free whistle. You would think kids would have no interest in Dragnet, but I loved it.

Was Cocoa Puffs the first chocolate cereal? Or was it Cocoa Crispies? Whichever, I am a huge choc-a-holic, but I never could stand chocolate cereal. Not even when I was a kid.

I remember Post Toasties originally always had an Indian on the box. This box must be from around 1954 or 1955. The Roy Rogers TV Show was presented by Post --- here they are offering a Roy Rogers cut out on the back of the box.

I am sorry but I do not remember Sugar Chex at all. Wheat Chex and Rice Chex, yes. Sugar Chex, no. I do remember Casper the Ghost.

Here we have an early box of Rice Krispies from the 50s or 60s. I remember they used to just display one of the three elfs (or whatever they are) on each box. Here we have a Woody the Woodpecker promotion.

Here is another Rice Krispies box from the same era, but with "Pop" on the cover of this one. Still with Woody Woodpecker.

Another early box of Rice Krispies is shown here. This one offered a free squirt camera. Kids loved anything that squirted water.

Here is a box of Sugar Crisp from the mid '50s. It has a Ruff 'n Reddy cut-out. Ruff 'n' Reddy was my favorite Saturday morning cartoon show. I later learned it was the first Hanna Barberra produced cartoon. It was a cartoon show about a dog and cat. I remember the went to the planet muni-mula, which was aluminum spelled backwards.

Kellogs Sugar Smacks were just like Post Sugar Crisp. When we were kids there was a time when they had clowns on the front. I think they think every kid loves clowns. I liked some clowns, but a lot of them I found very creepy.

When we were kids Sugar Smacks not only featured clowns, but also this seal. I cannot remember the order in which they appeared.

Here is an individual serving size box of Kelloggs Sugar Crisp that featured Quick Draw McGraw --- a Hanna Barberra cartoon that came along right after Huckleberry Hound.

It seems to me Trix was introduced when I was a kid. Here is an early box that features a promotion from Disney's movie Song of the South, which is no longer available in the U.S. due to its portrayal of African Americans. It was a great movie, however, and every kid whoever saw it loved Uncle Remus

Nabisco Shredded Wheat used to put postcards in their cereal boxes. If I remember correctly, they cards separated the rows of cereal (the full size shredded wheat -- not the spoon size). This is from the mid-1950s.

Here is a box of Grape Nuts from the early 50s. Not a kids cereal, notice how none of the packaging is made to appeal to kids. Even the promotion is for adult stationery. I remember later Euell Gibbons, the naturalist, advertised for Grape Nuts. He was an older man then.

Here is a box of Kix from the '50s, I believe. Kix was not a kids cereal, either, but they later successfully marketed it to kids. They didn't do that so much in the '50s.
